Venture north of Luleå to explore the traditions of the Sami people. Along the way, visit Storforsen, Europe’s largest free-falling rapid, and trek through its stunning nature reserve. At the Arctic Circle, participate in a traditional ceremony before continuing to Jokkmokk, the heart of Sami culture. Visit the renowned Ajjte Museum to learn about Sami history, and enjoy lunch while exploring local handicrafts.
The Sami Culture Expedition starts from Luleå and travels north to the Arctic Circle. Along the way, we stop at the stunning Storforsen rapids, Europe's largest freefalling waterfall, where we enjoy a trekking tour through the nature reserve. Continuing north, we stop at the Arctic Circle for a traditional, secret ceremony. Upon arrival in Jokkmokk, we visit the famous Ajjte Museum, which offers insight into the life of the Sámi people, both past and present. After lunch in Jokkmokk, we visit local craftsmen before heading back south to Luleå.
Travel along the scenic Råne River valley to meet the Eriksson forest Sami family in Flakaberg. Learn about the traditions of reindeer herding, enjoy a traditional meal in a wooden teepee, and explore the surrounding wilderness with your Sami guide.
